I just received email from Blackwell’s promoting Everything Will Swallow You. I order from them often. Free shipping to the USA, and they’re not Amazon.
just pre-ordered my copy (through Blackwells who also deliver to Ireland). Very much looking forward to reading it and I'm so thrilled Tom that you are now putting the draining, expensive Unbound fiasco behind you.
This is wonderful news, Tom! And that cover is genuinely beautiful (and intriguing). So happy for you that this is happening and that other books will be republished.
I hope that you taking the steps of snatching your rights from Unbound doesn't mean you get excluded from the claim; I assume that they still owe you the back pay until that point. I'm not sure it'll come (you are sure it won't come), but still - they keep saying to the press that when the new venture is healthy and thriving, the money WILL come. I do genuinely hope so, but on the other hand, they're also saying Unbound has never made any profit since 2012, so how they're then hoping to be profitable at some point by running the business with mostly the same people and a relatively new ceo who, by her own admission, doesn't know anything about publishing, marketing, etc., I don't know. Still, I do hope it will come at some point.
For now: I could pre-order from Blackwell's (love them), but I would also love supporting a local bookshop here in the Netherlands. But I don't know how that works - do international pre-orders also 'count'? I assume so, because I assume those pre-orders all go the publisher and are added up, but I thought I'd ask. I want to do the best thing.
Hi Chantal. Thanks for asking this, and thinking of it! Sadly a sale at a bookshop in the Netherlands wouldn't count (it would also be quite a bit more expensive for them to import it), which is why I'm recommending Blackwells for everyone overseas (especially with the signed copies/free international postage). Hopefully if the book does well enough it might get a proper release in the Netherlands one day!
I thought this might be the case and that it was too simplistic a thought to hope that all pre-orders everywhere would count. But I absolutely love Blackwell's so I will order there. I've ordered there before but I always feel guilty about how on earth they can still have a profit margin even with being a part of the post-Brexit OSS scheme, low/free shipping, etc. But apparently they're going strong and that makes me happy. So, there's another pre-order incoming for them right after this reply!
Bookshop.org have free shipping this weekend too, which also applies to pre-orders. I’ve just secured my copy. Best of luck Tom.
I’m in the U.S. & highly recommend Blackwell’s. The book is listed for pre-order there and they ship to the U.S. at no extra charge.

Hi Tom! Any thoughts on the last paragraph? (this reminder isn't a diss - I know you can't answer everyone and everything)

Fun fact - did you know your book is lighter than air? The weight is -1g.
