If anyone is on the fence about this...I just finished "Notebook" and my only criticism is that it proved to be a poor choice for "read in bed until I'm sleepy" because I couldn't stop at the end of the next chapter as I'd promised myself to do, and my audible laughter also kept the dog awake.
Oh wow - the art! Please tell your mom some random people on the internet love her work. (This random is from Nova Scotia, Canada and desperately wants to pick up a pen and pad right now because of her)
I love your mum's artwork! She is so talented. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Notebook. I encourage anyone who hasn't read it to promptly take advantage of this offer to get it and read it. I also want to say: Yes to the garlic!
The other two are quite a bit more hefty so it’s normally around £31.50 to send all three. Drop me an email if that’s ok (just about to start replying to messages).
Love the art. Dig the cats. (We have three.) And I totally relate to this: "As a result, I don’t think I’ve ever had such strong feelings of duality and separation in the entire 29 years I’ve been earning my living by bashing out words on a keyboard. I’ve felt, for almost a decade, like I’ve been on a little desert island of my own creation with my work but now I feel like I’ve cut the rope that kept my little insignificant boat moored to that island, and I’m floating in open water. Fortunately, I’ve always liked swimming in the sea."
I love your writing Tom, so hilarious! And your Mum's work is utterly amazing! I am in Canada and the postage and conversion is way too much for me but I will visit your Website. I hope the publisher issue is resolved. Perhaps all writers owed can get together and work something out (not actually saying the words here but one can read between the lines)
Am already a subscriber and own several of your books (particularly fond of the notebook, it’s a beautiful object as much as a splendid read) and would love to be the recipient of that gorgeous hare. Do you think I might send a leaf-printed shawl for your mother in exchange ? I know that’s wasn’t the offer you made, but still worth a shot….
Because it is January and that follows the somewhat spendy month of December (and also goes on for 89 weeks until payday), I am rather skint at the moment! However, ever since it came out, I’ve been dying to read 1983 and wondered if you would consider selling me a copy of it for £10 (including P&P) which is really all I can afford? I 100% completely and utterly understand if it’s a no but thought it was worth asking since that’s the only book of yours I haven’t yet owned and read (and I have pledged/helped to fund several of your others via Bookbound).
If you do decide to grant my somewhat cheeky and a bit desperate looking plea (!) please could I be even cheekier and ask for one of Jo’s cat postcards in with it? That baby would be framed and up on my wall before I could say “the Cox family are talented and lovely people” 😉 Whatever you decide, thank you for the many many hours of blissful reading pleasure you have given me over the years and I hope you get paid very very soon!
Thanks so much for the support, Lisa. I’m afraid I only had three 1983 hardbacks left here and they’ve been snapped up now. But have you checked out Blackwells? They currently are selling it for £10.50 with free delivery: https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/1983-by-Tom-Cox/9781800183438
I've often said if God wanted us to iron, She wouldn't have invented perma press. BTW, I'm pretty sure I pre-ordered one of your books from your publisher and didn't get it. It's a shame. They must be having difficulties but it isn't fair to cheat those who make money for them.
Hi Virginia. Sorry about that. Can you check which one it was? Everything Will Swallow You isn’t out until March so if it was that one you won’t have received it yet. If it was 1983 you should have received in August. Sometimes when people don’t click to confirm their mailing address when unbound email the book doesn’t go out. As bad as they are at paying me they do send the books to everyone who pledges.
Ah, that’s good to know! March 22nd is the publication date… Hopefully Unbound will be able stick to that, despite their present difficulties. I know the book is currently about to go to the printers.
I’d like to buy Notebook. But I live in India. My MIND wanders so could I have easy directions on how to send for it and payment? What a family of warm imaginative people.
Great stuff as always Tom. Couldn’t stop laughing about the chicken escapologist so therefore very saddened by the fox in the henhouse story at the end. Foxes should be banned from anywhere where small furry or larger feathered animals expect to feel safe.

You should do it. Never fight the creative muse.
Just so you know: I'm well into "Villager" and enjoying your life as well as mine.
Brilliant to hear. Thank you!
Beautiful art friend ❤️ I'm inspired

Thanks Stacy!
Assuming the cost to ship 3 books to the US isn’t appreciably more than the cost to ship one, I’d like all three.

Yep. Welcome :)

Thanks Patti! It's worth checking out Blackwells as they do free delivery to Canada from the UK: https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/Villager-by-Tom-Cox/9781800182370
Blackwell's is brilliant! Thanks!
Good to know Tom! Thank you for this information.
Have just ordered Notebook from Blackwell. Very happy.

That’s great, thank you so much for the tip off Tom!

My mistake, Tom. I did receive 1983. For some reason, I thought EWSY was coming out in 2024. I hope my comment didn't cause you undue concern.

I would love a piece of Jo’s art!!!!
