I loved this, Tom! It’s such a mix of almost classical eloquence interspersed with colloquial, blunt effervescence. The cat is feisty and very feline, and your wonderful writing shows you know his tribe intimately.
To give up so quickly what they worked so hard to get and leave for a cash advance that didn’t seem to be as much as they thought. The economy of the cat being more choosy lived a full life with reminiscing past lives and stayed true to the couple and the way s only a cat can ever know.
Sorry fills my stocking with joy this Christmas and Hanukkah morning. A wonderful lump of coal to warm on a cold day.
I read this in bed, while pinned down by Martha, who sheds so much fluff that i have to scrape the bed with one of those lint remover triangle thingies (that has tiny teeth and a wooden handle) before i can join her in it at night. She’s twenty plus years old (21 in May), her once gleaming eyes now clouded and pearly and could tell you a story or two if she didn’t have cat-mentia. In her prime she was photographed chewing on a pumpkin for a Japanese book about artists and their cats. Now she sleeps a lot, occasionally waking to extend a paw and pat my face, or to use said paw to dip into my teacup when I’m not paying attention. I bet she’s seen some dark shit in her multitudinous lives too.
What a wonderful gift this Christmas morning to find in my inbox. We had to say goodbye to our Sweety this past Thursday. She surely was whispering in your ear about what to post today. 💜
Why do they always do it immediately after you've laundered the sheets? This is so great Tom. I laughed a lot which is nice on Christmas Day. "..eclectic soups.." was my favourite.

I loved the cat. Particularly how it weighed up its best prospects.

And such is the story of our cats. Thank you!
Haha, spot on with the cat!

I don't know if non-cat-people can relate to this story....but if not, too bad for them.
How sweet of you to write a story about my cat.

Perfect tale for Christmas morn!! Merry Christmas to you and yours, Tom (including the four-footeds, of course). May your Christmas wishes come true.
I needed to read this today. Thanks Tom. Happy Christmas to you. x

Gorgeous story. Thank you
A tale as old as time, and relevant in any universe a cat might inhabit.
Absolutely marvelous read on this cold Christmas morning. Thank you Tom, and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thank you for this delightful tale, just right for Christmas morning with coffee. You know cats very well. Marvelous aren't they?
